Berlin Brats BASH at the Beach   Leave a comment

I’m trying to get a feel for who is interested in a mini meet Myrtle Beach.  I’ve scouted a couple of places in the local area and I’d like to get an idea of what weekend would be good and what ya’ll are interested in.

The first location is a chain with some excellent award winning craft biers Gordon Biersch . The menu looks to be tasty bar food.  We have the ability to reserve some room if we can get enough visitors.

The second choice is a more traditional Old World Restaurant that has recently opened in a new location. Cafe Old Vienna has all the old classics and boasts of a cozy bier-garden.

Those headed to the bigger reunion in April might not have the time for a visit to the Grand Strand, however my weekends are clear. Please take a gander and let me know in the comments which restaurant you prefer and which of the following dates is the best:

March 11th, March 18th, March 25th or April 1st

My Blog is Like My Garden   6 comments

Dear BJ,

I have been thinking about this blog a lot lately.  That’s it, just thinking no writing.  Today I came to the conclusion that my blog reflects my life quite well.

I find that it’s like the garden I want to grow every year.  In the Spring I get excited and want to plant some seeds and make something grow.   Then the  anticipation as you wait for the seeds to sprout. Finally, the magic of a seedling emerging and starting to grow.

That all happened this past spring.  I got a pack of old postcards and the idea for a blog sprouted.  It grew slowly and thrived as long as I paid attention and nurtured it.  Then one day I stopped paying attention to my blog.

There are a hundred excuses,  It got hot, the pool was open, wanted to take the Granddaughters to the park…you get the picture.  My garden withered and in the meantime I succumbed to a known time killer.  It was like spraying the garden with round up.

I started leveling a character in World of Warcraft.  I know, 55 years old and playing video games.  What am I thinking.   Just like the garden and my blog though, my character has grown and is almost at the top level and I am losing interest.

The conclusions are obvious.  I enjoy starting things but my interest wanes when it comes time to nurture them.  This is an issue that I will have  to work pretty soon.  Once I finish reading some more blogs, burning my CD’s to my computer and what ever else pops up before my next post.

Same as always,

Yep that’s it, Trifecta: Week Eighty-Six.   12 comments

Dear BJ

Here is another entry for the Trifecta Writing Challenge.  Week Eighty Six .  The rules are clear and the writing a challenge.   33-333 words on the third definition of CRACK from the Merriam Websters Online Dictionary.   I hope you enjoy.

Your Nephew,

I wasn’t really sure at first and that really bugged me.  You know how something gets in your head, worms it’s way inside and runs until that’s all you can think about. That’s what happened to me.  I first suspected it almost a year ago, then my shift changed.  Because of the shift change there was no need to explore it and I didn’t think about it until about two months ago.  I went back on the noon to midnight shift and the same thing again.  No, I said to myself it can’t be and I will prove it. It happened again though.  There was no clear explanation.  Nothing made sense, nothing added up.  I figured it out last night though.  Yep, that’s it I thought to myself when it happened again.  You’ll never guess.  There is a crack in time that I get lost in.  It happens between 0015 and 0018 hours in the morning.  I checked, I wrote it in a notebook, I kept track of it.  I leave Conway where I work at midnight and if the lights are right I pass through Red Hill and University on my way to Socastee and I will skip through to Big Block junction.  The same thing happens every time.  It’s like I blink and I’m at the light by Putter’s Pub. What scares the hell out of me is the high rise bridge over the inter coastal waterway in Socastee.  It’s a four lane bridge with a two yard median and no extra room on the side to pull over. You have to pay attention even during the daytime because it’s tight. I can never remember going over it coming home from work.  Now that I know what’s happening, I will figure out how it works. That’s the real trick, to figure out magic reason that time opens up for a few minutes and simply slips away.

Elvis   4 comments

Dear BJ,

I saw Elvis at the Bæjarins Beztu stand down by the harbor in Reyjavik, Iceland one summer night.

He had two pylsur with the works:

Tomat sauce

Remoulade sauce

Raw onions

Fried onions

Sinnep (sweet mustard)

Oh yeah, he got a coke.

I had two with sinnep myself. I ended up with a coke too, no Pepsi.

He carried a beat up acoustic guitar and wore a sharp black western cut jacket with rhinestones.

His sideburns were to die for.

He was absolutely convinced he was Elvis.

I wasn’t quite sure though because his shoes looked real beat up.

The lamb dog was really good.

Your Nephew,

P.S. Sif says this is the best place to get a SS pylsur from in Reykjaik. I got the Bæjarins Beztu image from this site: and they do a pretty good review.

Daily Prompt: No Thank You   5 comments

Dear BJ,

I would immediately banish the word like from every day usage.  You know, like get rid of it. I mean like, it’s not even used in a meaningful way.   Of course some people might like to use it like, to say they like something. I am so over the way that it is inserted into every sentence to like, add umph to a message or to liken something to something else like you know  Of course who am I to get rid of a word, like I have that power.  If you can’t tell I don’t care (like) for this word anymore.

P.S. I hope this pings back here:
