Writing comes more easily if you have something to say. ~Sholem Asch   Leave a comment

Dear BJ,

I was thinking about reading blogs yesterday while I was walking on the beach.  What came to me was that reading blogs is a lot like mining for gold.  It takes some work to find the treasure.  I read a lot of blogs back in the late 90s and I am reminded of the time I found this guys blog that was really interesting.  I had to go through quite a few before I found his, and it was an interesting blog.  A real treasure.  So the next day at lunch I went back to see what he had to say.  His post had to do with how the American, Military, Industrial Complex from Alaska had invaded his blog site.  The author was English and a bit full of himself I thought.  I decided to leave a post letting him know that I was but a lowly MSgt. who enjoyed reading instead of working and that I liked to read interesting blogs.   He was taken aback and apologized for his paranoia and I went on my way.

That brings me back to the meat of this post really.  I haven’t read a lot of blogs for a long time.  I can’t really say why, because I enjoy it.  But what I decided to do was use the theme of postcards to my Aunt as a reason to write.  She passed last year and I thought about all the postcards I had written to her over the years I was in the Air Force.  Quite a few I am coming to find out.  My Aunt Peg sent me an envelope full of them a few weeks ago.  So I tried posting them on facebook,  but it didn’t result in what I was looking for.  So how did I get from an envelope of old postcards to starting a blog?

That is really the meat of this post.  You see I was killing some time at work on Google+ when I came across a nugget in my gold pan. I found an interesting blog at http://andrawatkins.com.  The post was witty and well written and caught my attention.  However that is not whole story.  A friend and mentor of mine Sylvia told me she was starting to paint water colors again and was going to blog about it.  She hangs out here: http://artsyfartsysyl.blogspot.com/.  Finally, a third blogger, my sister came to mind.  She writes beautifully and her posts always touch my soul.  Her inspirational words can be found here: http://imwalkinginfaith.blogspot.com/.

So you see it pays to mine for treasure BJ.  If you seek it and work for it, it can be yours.    Let’s see if there is anything glittery in what I write.

Your Nephew,
